First Enkande Youth Camp Successfully Launched

The Omugo Development Foundation successfully launched its first Enkande Youth Camp, a cultural mentorship program designed to guide young people using Bunyoro's rich cultural heritage.

What is Enkande?

"Enkande" (engeso n'obuzaaraanwa bwa Bunyoro) is a nurturing and mentorship camp for young people that uses cultural heritage and positive traditions to shape and steer the community towards sustainable development.

Camp Activities

Participants engaged in: - Traditional dance and music - Cultural etiquette lessons - Life skills training - Health and hygiene education - Sex education and reproductive health awareness - Drug and alcohol abuse prevention sessions

Wholistic Development

ODF is providing knowledge, skill, and guidance for wholistic development of young people living in a dynamic environment through real-life topics and experiences. The camp addresses issues like:

  • Early pregnancies and how to prevent them
  • Early and forced marriages
  • Drug abuse and alcoholism
  • Self-worth and cultural identity
  • Gender equality and respect

Youth Response

Young participants expressed enthusiasm about learning their cultural roots while gaining practical life skills. Many shared that they now feel more confident about their future and better equipped to make healthy decisions.

Plans are underway to expand the Enkande program to reach more districts across Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.
