The Omugo Development Foundation's Agro-Forestry Environmental Conservation Project has reached a significant milestone with the establishment of over 50 acres of cocoa plantation in Nyakatooke-Kitoba area.
Sustainable Development
The agro-forestry program is a sustainability plan for ODF that entails establishment and management of agroforestry plantations alongside provision of agroforestry knowledge, skill, and training towards youths in communities and schools.
What We've Planted
- Cocoa trees: The primary crop providing long-term economic value
- Natural trees: Providing permanent shade and forest cover
- Bananas: Serving as temporary shade while other trees mature
- Coffee: Diversifying the agricultural portfolio
Community Benefits
The project benefits immediate communities with: - Employment opportunities during planting and maintenance - Eco and agri-tourism potential - Demonstration facilities for students - Knowledge sharing about crop and soil management - Proper and effective land use practices
Looking Ahead
Our target is to establish 150 acres of cocoa in total, creating a sustainable green economy that will benefit the region for generations to come. This initiative demonstrates how environmental conservation can go hand-in-hand with economic development.
