Omugo Netball Tournament

Advancing the Glory of Women & Girls in Bunyoro through Sports

Annual sports platform advancing the glory of women and girls through competition and education.

About This Program

Netball is a game that attracts largely women and girls participation and when played in the Gala format, it brings together millions of players and supporters to enjoy the competition.

The Queen, in the interest of advocating more for the rights of women, girls and children created an initiative called the Omugo Netball Tournament which is held annually, as a platform to pass on educative, sensitization messages to players and the different stakeholders, and the kingdom at large.

The tournament also promotes talent, and gives women, girls and children opportunities to learn and express their concerns and proposals in the development process. The tournament hosts participants from all 8 districts of Bunyoro region including Primary school pupils, secondary school students and tertiary institutions, women groups and clubs.

A theme is selected every year - in 2019 it was Health and Sanitation. Activities of the tournament alongside the Netball competitions depend on the selected theme including trainings, professional and career guidance talks, and guest speakers on different topics.
