Agro-Forestry Environmental Conservation Project

Sustainable Green Economy for Bunyoro

Environmental conservation through cocoa plantations, providing employment and sustainable development training.

About This Program

The Agro-forestry program is a sustainability plan for ODF that entails establishment and management of agroforestry plantations and also provision of agroforestry knowledge, skill, and training towards youths in communities and young people in schools to create sustainable economic development solutions.

The agro-forestry plantations involve large scale growing of crops like cocoa, coffee, alongside both natural and commercial trees. The project benefits immediate communities with employment, eco and agri-tourism, demonstration facilities for students where knowledge is passed on about crop and soil management, proper and effective land use and in overall, reviving and conserving the environment to achieve a sustainable green economy.

Currently ODF through partnerships has established over fifty (50) acres of cocoa plantation alongside natural trees to act as permanent shade and forest cover, plus bananas as temporary shade. The target is to establish one hundred and fifty (150) acres of cocoa in total.
